I started painting when I was about 9, and sold my first painting to a non-family member when I was 13. It was a romantic sort of painting of a lighthouse on a bluff. I had entered it in the county fair. I won first prize in my age category, and sold it for $50.
The county fair was my first "public space" --apart from my dad putting my art on an easel in the living room when new guests were expected. I entered in every possible category from age 8 to 17. (Everyone who enters in the fair knows the thrill of seeing their work on display.) Since then, I’ve shown my work in galleries in New York, New Jersey, Vermont, and the Midwest, as well as in Assisi, Italy.
I live in New York State but grew up in Ohio and Michigan. That's why I have so many paintings of the Midwest--particularly Pennsylvania (it's a big state--takes me five hours to pass through!). I love to travel, and landscapes have always been the main attraction—especially farms and France, and farms in France. I’m always happy to see different landscapes. Luckily for me, landscapes are everywhere, so I'm spoiled for choice. The world is full of inspiration!
